Zakat & Khums ("we", "our", "the app") is a mobile application developed by Pragmabits that helps Muslims calculate Zakat and Khums obligations. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

Zakat & Khums does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

• Personal information (name, email, phone number, address)
• Account credentials or login information
• Financial account numbers or bank details
• Location data
• Advertising identifiers

The app does not require user registration or sign-in.

2. Data Stored on Your Device

All financial data you enter (asset values, income, expenses) is stored exclusively on your device in an encrypted local database. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us or any third party.

The app also stores your preferences locally:

• Religious school of thought (Madhab)
• Preferred currency
• Nisab standard preference (gold or silver)
• Khums year start date

3. Network Requests

The app makes the following network requests to function properly:

• Gold & silver prices — The app fetches live metal prices to calculate Nisab thresholds through our own price-caching service. Only the currency code is sent in the request. No personal or financial data is transmitted.

4. Analytics & Crash Reporting

The app uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to help us understand app usage and improve stability. These collect only:

• Anonymous usage events (e.g. screens viewed, features used)
• Crash stack traces (technical error information)
• Device model, OS version, and app version

This data is never linked to your financial data, calculation history, or any personally identifiable information. We do not use advertising identifiers, and the app explicitly opts out of the Google Advertising ID. Analytics can be disabled by revoking internet permission at the OS level.

5. Third-Party Services

The app uses the following third-party services:

• gold-api.com and open.er-api.com — for gold/silver spot price data and currency conversion rates, respectively. We fetch this data through our own server-side proxy, so these services never receive requests directly from your device. MetalpriceAPI (metalpriceapi.com) is used only as a fallback if the above services are temporarily unavailable.
• Firebase Analytics — for anonymous usage analytics
• Firebase Crashlytics — for anonymous crash reporting

These services have their own privacy policies. No personal or financial user data is shared with them.

6. Data Security

All financial data stored on your device is encrypted using industry-standard encryption (SQLCipher). Encryption keys are stored in the platform's hardware-backed secure keystore (Android Keystore / iOS Keychain). The app does not embed any third-party API credentials; price data is retrieved through our own server-side proxy service instead.

7. Children's Privacy

Zakat & Khums is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

8. Your Rights

Since all your data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times. You can delete all app data by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
